The MCCC stays active all
year, as T.K. Thompson displays his A/FX
style Nova at the Lakeland Dragstrip
Reunion that was held in November. We had a
great year in 2010, and plans are already
underway for a full slate of activities for
2011.
Also seen at Holy Springs were MCCC members
Jim and Alka Cohen who meet drag racing
legends Roland Leong and
Larry Reyes.
The MCCC received an invitation to attend
the shrimp boil at George Poteet's "farm",
and many of our members took advantage of
the opportunity to see George's incredible
collection of street rods, muscle cars, and
memoribillia. George owns some of the most
stunning automobiles in the country, and
his latest street rod build (above) is a
perfect example of the efforts his projects
entail. Truly a unique experience, and much
appreciated by all who were present.
The MCCC made an appearance at the annual
Memphis Rodders Reunion the week before
Thanksgiving, and MCCC President Jack Mabry
is shown (above) making a $2,000
contribution to the cause of benefitting
the Shriner's Burn Centers. Recognition
must also be given to the
Memphis
Street Rods who donated $5,000 to
the cause. 2010 marked three continuous
years of support from each of these local
area car clubs, and their combined efforts
have enhanced the total contributions to
this worthy cause by over $19,000.
The MCCC capped off 2010 with an appearance
in the City of Bartlett's annual Christmas
Parade, and our club Christmas party. Gary
Galimore's gorgeous 1957 Bel Air hardtop is
shown (above) preparing for the parade.
Yet despite the continous activity during
the cooler months, we are now entering 2011
with a new schedule of planned activities,
and we want to extend an invitation to all
car enthusiasts to join us as spring
unfolds and brings us a new season of fun.
First on the agenda will be the resumption
of the Bartlett Cruise-ins, which should be
back on the front burner by mid-March.
Naturally, we'll have to keep an eye on the
weather, but if nothing is falling from the
sky, you can bet we'll be there.
We've also set the calander with the dates
for the local cars shows we present. So
break out that Sharpie, and circle the
following dates:
- June 11 - City of Bartlett Show -
Freeman Park
- Aug 20 - Faith Baptist Church Show -
Faith Baptist Church
- Sept 24 - Bartlett Festival Show -
Freeman Park
- Oct 15 - Fall Festival Show - TN
Baptist Children's Home
We'll have flyers available soon, and
they will be distributed at the Bartlett
cruise-ins and other local events. Also be
aware that we have other plans under
development that should make 2011 another
hallmark year for local car enthusiasts,
but we've got to keep the lid on them for
right now. Meanwhile, if you dig Classic
Chevys (whether you own one or not)
consider attending a meeting and checking
us out. You might just want to stay!
MCCC meetings are held on the third Monday
of each month except December at Fresh
Slices Sidewalk Cafe, 6600 Stage Rd,
Bartlett TN.
