Scale Sensations!

You know model cars. It's how we fullfilled our automotive desires before we could drive! Some of us never stopped building them, and some of us renewed an interest in building scale creations after a lengthy abscence from the styrene scene. Maybe you never bothered with them, but we can fix that now. I feel pretty confident that building models as a younger person had a lot of influence toward making an actual car enthusiast out of me; something that has lasted to this day.

Last year the Memphis Classic Chevy Club held an impromptu model contest for the membership. It was just for fun (as it should be) and it had a pretty good cross section of participants and types of cars entered. I noticed some smiles as the club members voted for their favorites, so mission accomplished.

Therefore, we're going to do it again. Break out the paint and glue and imagination and put something together for the May meeting, or dust off an oldie and bring it along to get in on the action. Here's our very basic ground rules & suggestions for the contest:

• You need to have assembled the model at some point in time.
• No pre-assembled kits, or die-cast vehicles please.
• We will have two classes. That's it.
• Class one (1) will be for "Chevys" since that is the namesake of our club.
• Class two (2) will be for everything else.
• Creative thinking and "kit bashing" is encouraged.
• We will display the entries at the May meeting.
• The club members will cast ballots for their favorite entries.
• A recognition award will be bestowed upon the "winner" in each class.

It should be fun, so get busy. Who knows, if we can maintain interest and ramp up the number of entries, then we may have to see what we can do to expand this thing as part of another event. It would be kind of nifty to host an actual "open" model contest in my view. We might just create a few more Chevy enthusiasts for our troubles!
