Autumn in Arlington

You should've been there. It was a perfect day to drive your classic car, be it a classic Chevy or something else entirely.

This year we left on our Sunday drive from Buckhead Creek Park, and we returned to the same location for our BBQ cookout. Our poker run journey took us along mostly rural roads and was a pleasant drive for everyone involved.

When we returned to the park, we had door prizes a plenty, and made a few special awards to boot. Here, Jim Cohen, Gerald Raymer, and Ronnie Hodnett are presented with our "gearhead" awards to recognize the effort that each of them put into our give-away 350 Chevy engine this year. Ronnie provided the rebuild-able motor, and Gerald and Jim did the assembly. The results were fantastic, and much appreciated. Jimmy Carrigan was the lucky winner of the engine, and has already begun transplanting it into his truck. Congratulations to Jimmy!

Of course, there are lots of fine cars parked that can be admired once the driving is done, and the dinner bell has rung.

Here, MCCC president Jack Mabry presents a faux check to the Shriner's representing the funds raised from our give-away engine. The $4,540 raised made the effort very worthwhile. We will combine this take with the Memphis Rodder's Reunion this year in an effort to truly raise the bar and make a sizable donation that benefits the Shriner's Burn Transportation Fund. Larry Nolan, who organizes the Rodder's Reunion, was on hand to acknowledge the effort and gave his heartfelt thanks for the gesture. Our donation will be presented to Larry at the Rodder's Reunion dinner which is to be held on Thursday evening, November 20th. This spirit of co-operation has also inspired the Memphis Street Rods to join in the effort and should insure a very noticeable contribution is gathered to benefit the worthy cause. We'll keep you posted as to what the total contribution tally is once the reunion dinner has taken place.
