Yes Virginia, it has been hotter than a
July afternoon on Venus lately, but you can
still be cool by making the scene at the
weekly Bartlett Cruise-in.
So don't forget about this hip &
happening mid-week reprieve from the daily
grind. Just dust off your special interest,
classic, street rod, muscle car, import,
tuner, hot rod, or custom, (basically
whatever) and cruise on over to the
oversize parking lot at the corner of
Whitten & Stage Rd. There you can bond
with other like minded auto enthusiasts
without reservation. No trophies, no entry
fees, just an abundance of cool.
Make no mistake, there has been no shortage
of gearheads willing to spend some time
mingling at the weekly cruise-in, but we
wouldn't want you to miss it because you
were mowing the yard or tending to some
other domestic nonsense. There is simply
too much that appeals to us car people at
the cruise-in to let responsibilities get
in the way!
You're apt to see almost anything show up
on any given Thursday evening. New or old,
fast or slow, popular or peculiar. We've
had everything from the un-restored Tin
Lizzie style model 'T' touring shown above,
to the latest Lamborghini sports car make
an appearance at the cruise-in.
Many local car clubs make a point of
attending the cruise-in as a group and
power park their rides together. The Mid
South Mustangs, The GM F-Bodies (Camaros
& Firebirds), the Memphis Classic
Chevys (that's us!) are all regular group
attendees. Some weeks, we see an abundance
of off-road vehicles, and then the next
week, we may have more Mopars than you can
count on your fingers and toes. There are
even some internet forums that periodically
call out their followers to make the
cruise-in scene in Bartlett. Last week, the
local members of
Corvette
Forum landed at the
cruise-in en masse when 52 of the
fiberglass wonders made us all long for
a two-seat Chevrolet.
So join us at the cruise-in while the
warmish weather and abundant evening
sunlight are still with us. Remember that
there's lots of places to grab some eats in
the immediate area, so you need not go
hungry. Please help us keep the parking lot
tidy, by tossing your trash away rather
than leaving it on the lot, and kindly
don't block the fire lanes, burn rubber at
random, or run everyone off with an overly
loud stereo system. If we follow these
basic rules of parking lot etiquette, we'll
be welcome on this lot for as long as we
have cars to drive.
