Although most of us have a passion for Chevys that
are considered vintage designs, there's one model in
the Chevrolet product line-up that seems to endear
most every bow-tie fan regardless of the year of
manufacture. The iconic Corvette has captured the
imaginations of Chevy enthusiast for years. It
should be noted that Corvette production occurs
in the not too distant city of Bowling Green KY,
and that a very unique Chevrolet adventure
awaits anyone who embarks upon the day trip from
Memphis, TN and our surrounding areas.
To gain a sense of the history of this time honored American sports car, a visit to Bowling Green should include a stop at the National Corvette Museum. This museum is not officially affiliated with GM, but everyone seems real pleased that it's just a mile or two away from the Corvette plant. it has also become Kentuckys largest tourist attraction, and houses a truly impressive collection of signifcant and historical Corvettes, so make time for it.
You'll need to schedule a visit to the plant, but GM offers guided tours of the Corvette Assembly Plant throughout much of the production year and on relatively short notice. Although a far cry from John Wayne's 1953 Corvette, the current model is still a stunning visual sight and is now a technological tour de force after 55 years of continuous production. As an added bonus, the Corvette assembly plant is also the breeding ground of the snarky Cadillac XLR roadster. Check the Bowling Green Assembly Plant website to schedule your visit.
Other points of interest while in Bowling Green that should appeal to automotive enthusiasts include Beech Bend Raceway and Holley Performance Products.
